Andreja Volkov has spent years refusing to let other people decide what her music means - or what parts of her life they are entitled to own. Rei Kuromori makes a living reading risk: stunt work, motorcycles, technical problems, the narrow distance between control and consequence.
They meet on the rain-soaked set of Andreja’s new video. Rei notices the structure of a song she has barely heard. Andreja notices the woman who sees accurately without asking for anything in return.
What begins as attention becomes intimacy. Quietly at first. Increasingly impossible to keep that way.
Then Andreja’s old band begins resurfacing in pieces.
Anonymous faxes, copied recordings, altered photographs and rumours turn history into leverage. Old names and old access routes begin opening doors they should not, until someone stops testing the edges of Andreja’s life and starts closing the distance.
As Rei and Andreja’s private relationship becomes harder to separate from the danger around them, they are forced to confront the same question from opposite directions:
